There is also special care needed in the thawing out process and handling the food.
Why Feed B.A.R.F?
By offering your pet raw food , you are providing to them a diet that most closely mimics their natural eating habits as they were in the wild. All the food is 100% digestible. Raw food offers the nutrients essential to life. Through better digestion and superior assimilation of food derived nutrients, your pets will live happier, healthier and more vibrant lives.
Storage and Thawing
When your food is delivered from your local supplier (we use Landywood pet foods) it needs to be stored in a freezer. The food needs to be brought out of the freezer 24hrs before it is being consumed. Store it in a large tupperware box in a safe place. Dependent on the ambient temperature it will be thawed out in 24hrs in the summer months it can take less time. Rapid thawing can be achieved by poring cold water on the food.

Formula
Weight of dog in pounds / 100 x Feeding % = Amount in pounds
Food comes in 1lb / 453g bags
Example:
My male weighs 155lb he is not over weight or under weight so I feed him on a maintain weight percentage 2.5%.
155 / 100 x 2.5 = 3.9
Each bag is 1lb so 3.9 rounded up would be 4 bags.
Fasting
Another important component in feeding your pet a raw diet is the process of fasting. This age-old practice used to aid digestion and cleanse toxins is common among animals in the wild. We suggest fasting your adult pet one day per week, from breakfast to breakfast. The necessary amount of fasting time will vary from animal to animal. Be sure to provide plenty of fresh water. Fasting is an optional component of feeding a raw diet and is not crucial to your pet's overall long-term health.
Hygiene
Always wear protective gloves when handling the raw food and remember to disinfect all bowls, containers and any implements.
